Air Commodore K.R. Thaakar is a widely experienced veteran Indian Air Force Officer with 35 years of distinguished service in both, Operations and Administration. After a number of security related tenures, he had the distinction of being appointed as the Provost Marshal of the IAF, heading Air Force Police, Security and Vigilance departments at Air HQ, New Delhi. He has done M.Sc. and M. Phil., both in Defence & Strategic Studies, and is an alumnus of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and College of Air Warfare, Secunderabad. He has also been a member of a UN Peace Keeping Mission in D.R. Congo.
Since June, 2019, Air Commodore Thaakar has joined earlier GFSU, now NFSU as a Senior Faculty, steering the Homeland Security programme. Later, in February, 2021, he was appointed as the first Dean of the newly created ‘School of Police Science & Security Studies’. In November 2021, he was nominated to represent NFSU on a 12-day tour of three African nations – Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia – as a part of Government of India’s ‘Study In India’ programme. In September 2022, Air Commodore K.R. Thaakar participated in a 3-day ‘International Conference on Police Education’ at London on behalf of the NFSU. During the same tour, he also visited the King’s College London (KCL), and interacted with the Department of Forensics at its Waterloo Campus and the Department of War Studies at KCl’s Strand Campus. Subsequently, in March 2023, he has been appointed as the first ‘Professor of Practice’ at NFSU. His areas of interest are Homeland Security, Police Administration, Strategic Affairs, Air Power, Defence Studies and Peace Keeping Operations.
